Executive Producer, Creative Director, Filmmaker
An award-winning filmmaker, producer and communications strategist, Vanessa specializes in telling stories that influence opinion and change behavior. Her work has helped to raise millions of dollars for wildlife conservation, influenced communities to stop poaching, and brought science and nature to to a worldwide audience.
As the Executive Producer and Creative Director of Impact Media at National Geographic Society, a team she founded in 2017, Vanessa leads the strategy and production of video content that advances the mission of the non-profit organization. She began her career producing on-air and online content for the Discovery networks. Since then, she has produced media for numerous networks and non-profit organizations. Her work has been recognized in competitions such as the Webbys, National Press Photographers Association’s Best of Photojournalism, National Magazine Awards, Jackson Wild Media Awards, and the Emmys.
Vanessa has her B.S. in Entomology with a concentration in Wildlife Conservation, and her MFA in Science and Natural History Filmmaking. Her MFA thesis resulted in the social network and video series NatureBreak, which reached over 7 million viewers, cultivated a global community of over 500 active members, and, in a true testament to the power of impact media, saved the life of one of its members…but that’s another story.
